Characters: Aymeric de Borel, Estinien Varlineau
Summary:
Through cool water—clear water—potable, fresh from the spring melt—Aymeric sees it for what it is. Estinien is acknowledging the loss. He is acknowledging the choice Aymeric made to be here with him—here with any of their comrades—here with the shadows of dragons and the risk of their teeth.
Note: A salvaged vignette from a WIP that will probably remain unfinished—but if you see this pop again in a longer work, it’s cuz it is where it is supposed to be!

this is a commission for [twitter.com profile] ritostime!! thank you so much for letting me play with zenos and your warrior of light!

Characters:
Zenos viator Galvus, she/they Warrior of Light, Thancred Waters
Summary:
They bring up their other hand, and now both of their palms are flat against Zenos’ chest. Their hands rise and fall with his breathing, and they lower their eyes to watch it. “Can’t you be…”

Zenos continues to breathe. He waits for Cirno to finish their sentence. But Cirno’s voice has fallen away, fallen back like an army outnumbered, fallen short like a failure. The silence of the snowy wood comes back. It could crush them both.

At last Zenos usurps it. “I don’t know,” he says. “Can I?”

He has tried to do right by this boy—this boy and the eyes he shared with Halone. He has tried to withstand Her judgment.

He looks down at the boy. The boy looks forward; he has no other direction.

Characters: Aymeric de Borel, Estinien Varlineau
Summary:
Estinien was tossed from the back of a bucking wyvern, and now he lies in the wake of its retreat with his dead comrades strewn just yalms away. He glances sideways at Aymeric and his inspiring smile, and wrinkles his bloodied nose.

“You look terrible,” Aymeric tells him kindly. Estinien’s hair is kindred with the final weeks of winter, when there is no clean snow remaining, just dirty slush.

“I might bleed out,” Estinien replies.

Characters: Ardbert, Emet-Selch
Summary:
He does think it’s cool here. He thinks it’s likely damp and fragrant. He’d bet you it’s a fine feeling to rest in the shade, against soft moss and flowers.

He would not, of course, deny that it nearly bowls him over when, while he meanders apart from the Warrior of Darkness, he finds Emet-Selch doing just that.
